Council adopts Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex Master Plan
  • Friday 15 November 2013

The Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex Master Plan adopted by Sunshine Coast Council today provides a long term vision of what the Complex should look like and how it should function in the future.

The master plan was developed in response to council’s Sunshine Coast Sport and Active Recreation Plan 2011 – 2026 and acknowledges population growth in the area. It also reflects the increasing demands for quality sport and recreation facilities by the community.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said the Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex is a popular and integral sport, recreation and community facility servicing the Sunshine Coast community.

“The master plan, which takes into consideration public feedback, provides a long term vision for the Complex while working with existing site attributes to ensure new features are complemented and will enhance community use,” Cr Dickson said.

“The adoption of the Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex Master Plan provides guidance for the long term development of the site to maximise its functionality. This is particularly important to improve overall sport and recreation opportunities for users of the Complex.

“Impacts from accessibility and connectivity to and within the site, potential impacts from the future road infrastructure and how the site relates to the regional sporting network were considered in the development of the master plan.

“We have also balanced community aspirations with the site’s unique characteristics, such as the potential future widening of the Sunshine Motorway, neighbouring bushland and the site’s prior use as a land fill location.”

Throughout the development of the Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex Master Plan, sporting trends, population projections and usage patterns were analysed and extensive community consultation occurred.

Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex is home to a range of sport and recreation organisations including Sunshine Coast Cricket, Maroochydore Cricket Club, Maroochydore Eagles Basketball Association, Headland Bowls Club, Headland Buderim Croquet Club, St Johns Ambulance, Maroochydore SES, Sunshine Coast Gem & Fossicking Club, Sunshine Coast Art Group; and Sunshine Coast Contract Bridge Club

Key features of the master plan include:

  • improvements to the internal connectivity within the site through improved directional signage;
  • enhanced traffic flow and management;
  • stronger pathway connections;
  • expansion of the dog off leash enclosure;
  • installation of exercise equipment in the recreation park; and
  • further infrastructure to support increasing demands on facilities.
