Anzac Day

This year's Coolum Peregian RSL dawn ceremony was, as usual, extremely well attended by Coolum and district residents. It was obvious at the ceremony that there is a larger representation of young children, either from the local schools or with their families, attending this most solemn of events. As an ex-serving member myself, it is pleasing to see that the younger generation are embracing the true meaning of Anzac Day and honouring the lives that were lost at war.

Have your say

Earlier this month council undertook community consultation for the Draft Environment and Liveability Strategy at Coolum Library, where officers engaged with around 50 people. Key issues raised included managing growth, building heights, not becoming like the Gold Coast, maintaining the lifestyle we enjoy here, and transport and access. Visit council’s website to have your say on the strategy before June 4.

National Domestic Violence Prevention Month

I recently attended a remembrance ceremony in support of National Domestic Violence Prevention Month. In what was a challenging and moving memorial service, the community united to take a stance and commit to help reduce the incidence of domestic violence in our community.

Meet and greet

I recently held a meet and greet session in Peregian Springs and will continue to hold these bi-monthly. I encourage local residents to come along to discuss key issues facing the community. My next session is on June 7, 11.30am-1pm outside the sports club.
