Stop The Press!

Full ‘Steam’ or should I say full ‘Batteries’ ahead!

As of 11.45am, on the 6th October, The Nambour Alliance and the Nambour Tramway Company secured $500k from the Federal Government, under the National Stronger Regions Grant Round. This $500k Grant Funding will now complete the Community’s commitment to raise the $600k required under the Council Resolution. Does this mean no more ‘Tramfest’? Certainly not, It will just make the monthly events so much more enjoyable for all the 100 or so volunteers.

Oktoberfest Tramfest

Achtung! Clear your schedule for this Saturday, October 15 and come on down to Howard Street from 5pm for Tramfest Oktoberfest!

Once again we’ve got a terrific line-up of musical artists, including the Buderim Concert Band, Anna and Jordan, who recently played the Caloundra Music Festival, Hoo8hoo and Human Rights Mafia. There’ll also be fantastic food and entertainment with a special Oktoberfest German flavour! So come on down and soak up this great monthly community event that’s also raising important funds for our Nambour Heritage Tram project.

Nambour to Coolum trail

A long term project for a trail that links Nambour to Coolum is underway and we want your input.

Council’s Draft Nambour to Coolum Strategic Recreation Trail (Draft Trail) offers an excellent opportunity to provide the first East-West recreation link on the Sunshine Coast and also connect the hinterland with the Coastal Path network and Maroochydore.

You can view the Draft Trail and have your say via:

  • Council’s website before 5pm Monday, October 17;
  • in Nambour and Coolum Libraries from Monday, September 19 until Monday, October 17.
  • at an information session at  Bli Bli Old Church Hall 87 Willis Road, Bli Bli from 5 – 6.45pm,  Wednesday, October 5 or Nambour Council Chambers Forecourt, Cnr Burry and Currie St, Nambour from 9am – Midday, Saturday, October 8;

Toilet working group

We will soon be conducting a design workshop for the Kenilworth ‘Designer Dunny’ to work through some complex issues in regards to the site on which the new facility will be built.

A brains trust of designers and engineers will come together in November to problem solve and progress the design.

Once this workshop is complete and we’re satisfied we’ve found a design that is practical and safe, we’ll engage a consultant to take the design forward and this tourist drawcard for Kenilworth will begin to take shape!

Obi Obi Bike show

It was a great day at the Obi Obi Hall for their annual Motorcycle Show on September 25. This event was a vital fundraiser for the Hall and it was great to be able to provide them with some support for their cause.

I had a lot of people comment to me on what a fantastic job members of the Obi Obi Hall committee did in refurbishing the hall back to its brilliant best. It’s a real credit to everybody involved!

Vale Donald Wellington Owens

We recently saw the very sad passing of a wonderful and popular ex Kenilworth legend and identity Don ‘Spanner’ Owens. I first got to know Don an eternity ago through touch football and he became a very good mate.

So I was shattered to miss his funeral due to an unfortunate mix-up in my calendar. I want to pass on my deepest sympathy and condolences to Don’s wife Evelyn, his daughters Sharon and Tania and son Brad. I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there with you to pay my final respects to ‘Spanner’ and acknowledge a true friend and a great man.

See you round the region, Rogo!
