Light rail – have your say

Light rail has been identified as a transport option with the potential to support the lifestyle of residents now and into the future, with benefits for the community, our environment and the economy. Ensuring the future liveability and prosperity of the region is the major reason for the investigation into a proposed light rail corridor between Maroochydore and Caloundra. And it’s clearly a point of interest in the community: in the 48 hours following the release of the route options, council received more than 2000 visits to the light rail information page on council’s website.

The Sunshine Coast Light Rail—Shaping our Future report shows that a light rail service could be supported by a network of rapid, high frequency bus services that also connect with the future heavy rail line from Maroochydore to Brisbane.

Learn more about the light rail project at, view the route options information and maps and complete the survey.

Recent storms and showers will have helped a little in recent times to alleviate bushfire risk, but until we get substantial rains, high and extreme fire dangers will prevail, so please take extra care.

Have you recently received a pensioner card?

New pensioners are being encouraged to check if they are eligible for a council concession on their rates. Queensland Pension Card and Veteran Affairs Gold Card holders may also be entitled to a council concession. Provided you have owned property in the region for the last three years or at least five out of the last 10 years, you are eligible for this reduction on your rates. You can complete the form as soon as you become eligible at any time throughout the year. Check your status at council’s customer service centre at 10 First Avenue, Maroochydore, or at a council library.
