Junior netballers on the Sunshine Coast have another two high quality, resurfaced courts to hone their skills on following upgrades at Victory Park in Woombye.
This project for the Nambour and Districts Netball Association was jointly funded by council and the Queensland Government.
This upgrade follows the recent resurfacing of ten netball courts at Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex and two new courts at Maroochydore Basketball Stadium.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay was happy to see the refurbished Woombye courts opened in front of a very appreciative crowd of players, parents and friends on Saturday.
“All of the teams are back in action enjoying these upgraded courts and the overall improvements to the grounds,” Cr McKay said.
“It’s great to be able to provide quality netball courts for our community, particularly given the increased local interest in the game that the Sunshine Coast’s first national sporting team, the Lightning, has already sparked.”
Drainage at the facility has also been upgraded to help ensure the courts retain a high quality surface following rain.
Netball is one of the most popular sports among Australian children – with around one in five aged between six and 13 playing.
