  • Last updated:
  • 03 Oct 2016

In November 2016 work will begin on Maud Street and Aerodrome Road to upgrade to a number of key intersections.

These upgrades are essential to improve road safety, connectivity and to cater for the future growth of Maroochydore as the key centre for business and commerce on the Sunshine Coast.

The upgrade is funded through council's Capital Works Program and is due to be completed in mid-2018.

Project scope

Upgrade works will be undertaken on the following intersections:

  1. Aerodrome Road - at the junctions of Cornmeal Parade, First Avenue and Maud Street
  2. Maud Street - at the junctions of Bungama Street, Allambie Street and Dalby Street.

The upgrades will include the signalisation of a number of intersections and some changes to turning movements on others.

The project will:

  • increase road safety
  • improve traffic flow
  • improve pedestrian, cyclist and public transport connectivity
  • deliver streetscape beautification elements
  • accommodate future growth forecasts
  • provide access to the new Maroochydore City Centre and surrounds.

Project update

All construction and estimated timings are based on weather and construction conditions permitting.

Construction works along Maud Street at the Bungama, Allambie and Dalby Street intersections are to start in November 2016 and be completed by mid-2017.

In relation to the Aerodrome Road intersections, early works such as service relocations, preparation of the area and surveys will be required. Construction works will start in early 2017 for completion in mid-2018.

While there is likely to be some disruption to traffic along Sugar Road, Maud Street and Aerodrome Road during construction, every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.

Work will generally be carried out between 7am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Saturday work will be undertaken as required. There will be temporary lane closures and motorists are urged to follow all roadwork signs and directions for their own safety and the safety of construction workers. Intermittent night works will be required and council will consult directly with local residents to minimise any impact.

Where to from here

Council will continue to keep the community informed and will aim to minimise impacts on the community.

The project team will provide the community with as much notice as possible before each phase of the work starts.

The project will shut down over the holiday period from Monday 26 December 2016 – Monday 2 January 2017.
