160 Characters is an oral history and digital storytelling project.

Sunshine Coast Council is working with communities to record, preserve, and share people's memories and experiences. The project highlights the character of the Sunshine Coast.

New technologies

160 Characters merges new technologies with the Sunshine Coast’s intangible heritage such as:

  • oral histories
  • songs
  • music
  • traditions
  • rituals
  • skills
  • knowledge.

These are recorded and shared using:

  • smart phones
  • digital cameras
  • video recorders
  • social media.

Project outcomes

As part of the 160 Characters project, Council will work with communities to:

  • find and share existing collections of stories and histories
  • provide training in using new technologies
  • build a network of interested people across the region.
