Welcome to the Mayor's Telstra Technology Awards!

Council was proud to partner with Telstra to deliver these inaugural awards exclusively to high schools within the Sunshine Coast Council local government area.

These awards have demonstrated the knowledge and immense potential of the youth within the Sunshine Coast, with ideas ranging from mobile applications, websites and GPS trackers to musical staircases, environmentally friendly cars and 3D mapping software. The teams have gone through a rigorous mentoring process at Spark Bureau where they have further developed their ideas, seeking to build a viable business case.

Congratulations to Unity College's EJ2 team who have won the inaugural Mayor's Telstra Technology Awards 2016. Their idea of a stress management mobile application for students, called ESTRESSE was recognized by both judges and students as unique and innovative way to address mental health issues among students. The mobile application aims to address the stigma of "seeking help" through privately recording and recommending stress minimizing activities. The students have already developed a prototype. Siena Catholic College's Wired in Technologies were close runners up with their idea for a "seek for students" website that connects students aged 13-21 with potential employers. The main objective of this website is to develop opportunities for youth within the Sunshine Coast through connecting them with employers, education institutions and local events, ultimately seeking to retain the immensely talented youth of the Sunshine Coast. The team also won the Telstra People's Choice award for the most votes on the Telstra Facebook page. You can also visit their Facebook page or watch their video.

Pacific Lutheran College's Musical Maestro team came third with their musical staircase steps. The team developed a prototype at their school as a means to promote exercise and activity through seeking to develop a fun way to use the stairs. Watch their video

Congratulations to all the other teams who have been part of the awards. The judges were very impressed by the unique and innovative ideas the students have developed, as well as how these ideas changed and progressed through the mentoring process. Thank you to all the students who participated, as well as the school coordinators who assisted them through the awards process. We look forward to seeing how each of the ideas develop further into the future.
