Council, in conjunction with Otium Planning is undertaking a master planning exercise for sport, recreation and community pursuits within the Conondale Memorial Recreation Park. The draft Master Plan was endorsed by council on 18 August 2016 for public exhibition and comment. Residents are now invited to have their say as council develops the final version of the Master Plan for this valued community reserve.
The draft Master Plan aims to be consistent with community demand, whilst also protecting the environmental values of the site. The draft Master Plan ensures continued adherence with council endorsed strategies, which articulate the protection of the Park as a Motorcycle Precinct. The draft master plan also upholds a key principle of ensuring continued and improved access for the community to the Park.
The Master Plan will investigate and determine the most appropriate type of sport, recreation and community uses at the Park over the next 15 years.
There are several ways the community can engage with the consultants to provide feedback on the draft Master Plan. This includes a ‘Meet us at the Park’ event on Saturday 17 September 2016 on-site from 10am to 1pm, a feedback form, through a dedicated email at email@example.com or via phone (07) 3040 6658.
Community feedback will continue throughout the draft master planning process and will close on Friday 23 September 2016.

Feedback received during the community consultation period will inform the final Master Plan which will then be presented to council for adoption.
Key recommendations of the draft Master Plan include:
- retention of the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club as a tenant of the site
- enhanced recreational opportunities (access, shelter, seating etc.) adjacent to Elaman Creek to support passive community use
- improved community access to the Park and creek
- improved road access to the site
- inclusion of signage to acknowledge the site’s historical significance
- improved wayfinding throughout the site.
The State Government recently appointed council as Trustee of the Conondale Memorial Recreation Park (the Park). As such, Sunshine Coast Council has committed funds to master plan the site in order to plan effectively and provide a long-term vision for the Park.
The Park provides open space for formal and informal recreation and has been noted as a site of strategic importance for the sport of motocross in a number of council endorsed plans including the Sunshine Coast Open Space Strategy 2011 and Sunshine Coast Sport and Active Recreation Plan 2011-2026.
The Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club currently holds a lease over part of the Conondale Memorial Recreation Park.
