Healthy Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast Council has launched an exciting new health and wellbeing initiative called 'Healthy Sunshine Coast'. A series of free group fitness activities will be made available for Sunshine Coast residents to participate in across the coast. Numbers are limited and bookings are essential. It is recommended you consult your Doctor prior to embarking on a fitness program. Bookings and the full program are available on the Healthy Sunshine Coast webpage.

Council also supports a number of external health and wellbeing initiatives on the Sunshine Coast.

Other programs

  • parkrun on the Sunshine Coast - open to everyone, parkrun is a free, five-kilometre timed run (or walk) held every Saturday morning in a local park. parkrun on the Sunshine Coast is held at five locations, Kawana, Golden Beach, Brightwater, Town of Seaside and Nambour.
  • Heart Foundation Walking - Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest network of free community-based walking groups, with volunteer walk organisers leading walks in various locations on the Sunshine Coast.
  • FOODcents – online information and training in relation to basic nutrition. Provides user friendly comparisons of costs and nutritional content of home made versus take away meals. Includes information on how to shop-smart and understand food labelling.
  • Five Ways to Wellbeing – a report produced by the New Economics Foundation (UK) that identifies five key daily actions to improve wellbeing including the research and evidence base that led to their selection.
  • Heartmoves - Heartmoves is a gentle physical activity program suitable for anyone who has not done any exercise in a while. It is designed to be safe for people with stable long-term health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and bone or joint problems. Exercises can even be adapted for those with special needs or done in a chair.

Know the Score - diabetes awareness program

The Diabetes Queensland Know the Score program helps people to learn about:

  • type 2 diabetes 

  • steps to take to reduce diabetes risk. 

Trained volunteer speakers can also deliver free information sessions to community groups.

Beyond Blue to Green: the benefits of contact with nature for mental health and wellbeing - a report that reviews Australian and international research, and shows there is a significant relationship between people’s mental health and their local environment.
