2015/16 Year in Review - Division 4

As one of the most popular residential and tourist precincts on the Sunshine Coast, an investment in timely replacement and new facilities in Division 4 ensures we present a fresh and vibrant feel to our residents and visitors.

Divisional councillor John Connolly said the $393,000 invested in Stage 6 of the Alexandra Headland Foreshore Park upgrade was widely appreciated by locals and visitors, and received great feedback during the recent Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

“Other open spaces upgraded this financial year include Coopers Lookout, playground equipment at Pierce, Walker and Whitsunday parks, and the Mooloolaba Spit Boardwalk,” Cr Connolly said.

“New landscaping plans were drawn up for La Balsa Park, Buddina and I look forward to seeing these unfold over the next four years.

“The $808,000 streetscaping upgrade along Brisbane Rd, Mooloolaba was also completed, creating an attractive and welcoming entry point into the Mooloolaba tourism precinct.”

A major investment in cycleways was also a focus of last year’s capital works program.

“Council spent $2.83 million on cycleway works from Minyama to Mooloolaba to complete one of the key missing links around the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Connolly said.

“As people take up healthier lifestyles, cycling has become quite popular with this cycleway already becoming an important addition to recreational infrastructure in Division 4.

“Less visible but vitally important was the more than half a million dollars spent on flood mitigation works in stormwater drainage systems around Goonawarra Dr, Mooloolaba and Mari St, Alexandra Headland.

“A further $621,000 was invested in revetment works on seawalls at various Mooloolaba Beach locations to better protect our assets in these areas.

“A great many positive works were achieved in Division 4 in the past year and I am pleased with the many more planned in the coming years. I look forward to the budget announcements in June.”

Sunshine Coast Council will hand down its 2016/17 budget on June 16.
