Have your say on the Draft Integrated Transport Strategy

The region is changing, and significant growth is upon us. To protect our valued lifestyle here on the Sunshine Coast, it’s important you have your say in helping to plan our future transport strategy to ultimately spend more time with family and friends, and less time in traffic queues. The draft strategy aims to respond to the challenges and opportunities facing our region, as well as outlining council’s commitment in addressing the Sunshine Coast’s transport needs. Let’s take the following example - you live in Bellvista, work in Nambour and have two kids, one at day care and the other one at school. It’s a typical arrangement of daily commuting here on the Sunshine Coast, and something we want to optimise. The Draft Integrated Transport Strategy is an important part of council’s commitment to long-term transport planning for the Sunshine Coast, and I strongly encourage you to take a look at the draft strategy and provide feedback by July 13.

Have your say on the region’s first Arts Plan

This is a very exciting time for the Sunshine Coast community with the region’s first Art Plan now available for review. The 20-year draft Arts Plan provides a clear framework of goals and commitments, and clearly articulates council’s role in developing and supporting an environment in which the arts can flourish. I encourage everyone to take a look at the plan and provide feedback so we can ensure the final plan is truly reflective of our community’s aspirations in relation to arts and creative outcomes for the region.

Discover fascinating local creatures

Do you want to learn more about the native animals that might call your backyard home? Sunshine Coast Council in collaboration with Geckoes Wildlife has been hosting a series of events in various libraries across the Coast during the month of June. If you ever fancied getting up close and personal to a flying fox, owl or snake this is your chance. The events are free, but registration is essential. Don’t miss out, as there are only 2 events left. For more details visit the library website or call 5475 8989 to secure a spot.

Community Centre Update in Caloundra South

I am pleased to announce that construction on the new district level community centre in Baringa, Caloundra South is now well underway and is expected to be finished by late 2018. Once completed, the new centre will create a heart for the community where gatherings, meetings and events can be held, as well as providing a place for the community to meet.

Dear Peachester residents and visitors, have you tried the Flexilink transport services yet? It’s important the service gets used and costs only $2 per single trip on a pre-booked basis. Timetables are available at the Peachester Store, Beerwah Library or council’s website.
