If you know a person, community group or organisation making a difference to the Sunshine Coast community, give them the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a 2019 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Award. I strongly encourage the Sunshine Coast community to nominate a local hero in one of the seven Australia Day Awards categories. With the end of the year approaching, this is the perfect time to think about those who have made a difference to us all here on our Sunshine Coast. We are looking for the unsung heroes, young or old who have achieved something truly special, it may have been a brave act, an act of unparalleled kindness or an act of sacrifice for a greater good. Nominations close on November 26, 2018. You can nominate online via council’s website. The Sunshine Coast Australia Day Award recipients will be announced at a special ceremony to be held on Friday, January 25, 2019.
Community Organisations On The Rise
I am pleased to report that in recent years, our region has experienced a rise in the formation of community organisations. Community organisations are essential, especially in country towns, as they foster a culture of service and help people better connect with their community. Landsborough as part of the Glasshouse Mountains townships is a good example of this growth in community organisations, with the latest group called ‘Landsborough Love Where We Live’ adding to the existing mix of the Landsborough Area Community Association (LACA), Celebrate Glasshouse Country (with a new office under the hall), The Landsborough Hall Committee, the Museum and Chambers of Commerce to name a few key organisations. The point is, if you want to connect, contribute and make a difference in your community; don’t wait any longer, get more involved, and join one of these groups – they need you! To learn more about these groups, contact my office or search online.
