I’m delighted to report that Sunshine Coast Council will increase support for the Glasshouse Country Carols this year, after resolving to approach organisers of identified, high profile, established community Christmas Carol events to offer sponsorship arrangements.
The carols event will continue to be delivered by Church on the Rise, with council as a major sponsor. It is a testament to the broad depth of the event’s program that Church on the Rise be selected to receive Council’s support of $10,000. It will continue to be supported by the community and is an important addition to the Festive Season calendar.
Carols at Cotton Tree, Carols on Kings, Coolum’s Christmas in the Park and Nambour Community Carols will also benefit from council sponsorship.
Council also promotes and supports more than 50 smaller community festive season events and provides funding through the Community Grants Festive Season category – so I would like to remind possible applicants that entries open August 1 and close September 15.
Beerburrum festival success
What a terrific day the Matthew Flinders Celebration Day was last Sunday – great weather, displays/stalls, crowds and atmosphere.
Well done to the organisers and local community for being great hosts to the visitors.
Peachester Historical Society
It was my pleasure to be the guest speaker at a recent Peachester Historical society meeting. I was able to provide updates on a range of council heritage projects including the new Bankfoot House Archive Building and new exhibition projects at the Landsborough Museum and the Matthew Flinders Display at the Glasshouse Visitor and Interpretative Centre. In return, I learned a great deal from other speakers about the challenges to our dairy industry, past and present. It also reminded me how fortunate we are as a region to have groups of volunteers will to put in many years of dedication to help preserve our collective history.
