Horizon Festival 2018 program unveiled
This is a very exciting time for the Sunshine Coast with the Horizon Festival about to kickoff. Council recently unveiled an impressive 2018 program catering to the popular, emerging and experimental genres. There’s so much variety in the program this year - you can dip your toes in, or really immerse yourself and step outside your comfort zone. There are free and ticketed events across the region, visit the website www.horizonfestival.com.au to view the full program and plan your days across the 10 day festival.  You can also pick up a printed copy of the 51 page brochure at council’s customer contact centres and libraries.  Give my office a call on 5420 8987 as we’re also happy to post you a copy!

Improving pathways
As our railway townships continue to grow, one of my focuses is to keep improving our pathway networks. I receive many requests on the need for footpath extensions or missing links.  Every section helps, with the most recent funding for Hardwood Road in Landsborough. Utilising Divisional funds, the initial aim is to connect a pathway to the bus-stop and town; ultimately it would be good to create a pathway network that includes the local park. In the end, it’s all about providing an attractive and safer way to move around our growing residential area for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Bankfoot House Sesquicentenary Celebrations
In 2018, we are celebrating the 150 year anniversary of the founding of Bankfoot House by pioneers William and Mary Grigor. The house was first established as the lunch stop and staging post for the Cobb & Co route from Brisbane to the Gympie goldfields, then it served as a post office, accommodation house and supply store. To celebrate this important milestone, a program of special events are being held with the next event being the “Cobb & Co.” which will be held on Sunday 26 August, 10.00am – 12.00pm. This will take you back in time to the pioneer era where guest speakers including Jeff Powell, curator of Cobb & Co Museum and Steve Ralph, Spirit of Cobb & Co will provide insight stories about this epoch. Having attended the opening events myself, I can highly recommend to attend the next 2 special events being held in August and October.

Meet and Greet – Landsborough
The next session is planned for Thursday 23 August from 10am-12noon at Landsborough.  Drop by to discuss any local or regional council topics.  The venue is still to be confirmed but keep an eye on my Facebook page, phone my office on 5420 8987 or keep an eye out in the ‘What’s Happening’ section closer to the date.
