In recognition of the vital role seniors play in our local communities, Beerwah Library is celebrating Seniors Week from August 15 to 23. A remarkable week of free activities and events is planned at Council Libraries across the Sunshine Coast, including morning teas, technology tutorials, author talks, Wii Play sessions for seniors and more. Got to the libraries website for details—and nudge someone you know to join us as we honor and celebrate our seniors.
New amenities at Mooloolah sports ground
The new amenities at Mooloolah Sports Ground are now open, offering improved safety and better access. After much consultation on various options, the sporting precinct users and travellers will appreciate the improved visibility and access afforded by the new roadside location.
Stay safe on social media
Social media is great but are you concerned about your privacy and safety when using these websites? Join Megan Pozzi from QUT and find out how social media can be used positively and proactively. Learn how to keep your information private, as well as ways to boost your online presence. This free talk during Technology Week will be held at Beerwah Library on Friday, August 14 from 3.30pm to 5pm. Bookings essential, go to Beerwah Library Events Calendar or call 5475 8989.
Community action for data cable
Council has lodged a submission with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to declare an offshore cable protection zone on the Sunshine Coast. Such a zone would encourage the private sector to deliver an international undersea broadband cable, enabling the Sunshine Coast to offer direct international connectivity to global markets.
Securing an international telecommunications cable could change the nature of high-tech industry on the Sunshine Coast and South East Queensland for generations. Visit Council’s website to learn more about this exciting project and how you can help this submission by sending a message of support to the Prime Minister, the Federal Communications Minister and ACMA.
Out and about
I’ll be at Beerwah Marketplace, outside Woolworths, on Friday, August 21 between 9am and 11am where I look forward to catching up with local residents to chat about the many things happening in our community.
