Major Community Grants and Environment Levy Grants are now open
Our community groups do amazing work across the region to make the Sunshine Coast a great place to live, work and play. Your council’s Community Grants Program provides advice and funding support to not-for-profit groups for one-off projects, events and activities that benefit the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area. The next round of council’s Major Grants (all categories), Minor Grants (Event category only) and Environment Levy Grants are open now and please take note close on Monday, September 3, 2018. For more information visit council’s website or contact a grants officer on 5420 8616 to discuss your project. Don’t forget to check out our top ten tips for grant writing to assist with planning your application.

Horizon Festival 2018 program unveiled
This is a very exciting time for the Sunshine Coast with your very own Horizon Festival about to kickoff. Council recently unveiled an impressive 2018 program with everything from the popular to the cutting edge. It’s a packed program with even more local content this year - you can dip your toes in, or really immerse yourself and step outside your comfort zone. There are free and ticketed events across the region, visit the website www.horizonfestival.com.au to view the full program and plan your days across the 10 day festival.  You can also pick up a printed copy of the 51 page brochure at council’s customer contact centres and libraries.  Give my office a call on 5420 8987 as we’re also happy to post you a copy!

Bankfoot House Sesquicentenary Celebrations
In 2018, we are celebrating the remarkable 150 year anniversary of the founding of Bankfoot House by pioneers William and Mary Grigor. The house was first established as a humble lunch stop and staging post for the Cobb & Co route from Brisbane to the Gympie goldfields, then it served as a post office, accommodation house and supply store. To celebrate this important milestone, a program of special events are being held with the next event theme being the “Cobb & Co.” which will be held on Sunday 26 August, 10.00am – 12.00pm. This will take you back in time to the pioneer era where guest speakers including Jeff Powell, curator of Cobb & Co Museum and Steve Ralph, Spirit of Cobb & Co will provide insight stories about this epoch. Having attended the opening events myself, I can highly recommend that you consider attending the next 2 special events being held in August and October.

Meet and Greet – Landsborough
The next session is planned for Thursday 23 August from 10am-12noon at Henry & Co, 34 Cribb Street, Landsborough.  Drop by to discuss any local or regional council topics.
