I was honoured to attend the launch of the Nature Play initiative with Recreation and Sport Minister Steve Dickson at Skippy Park on July 7.
Luckily, council had recently opened the new and exciting hill-slide which formed a perfect backdrop to the event. With its blend of nature based and active play elements, Skippy was the perfect place to launch such a program; Nature Play is a fun and affordable way to assist parents in keeping their children busy and getting them outdoors. I heartily support this initiative as we need to ensure our children get the exercise they need – and all the healthy benefits time in the outdoors can offer.
Queensland Air Museum 40th Anniversary
I recently had the pleasure of attending the 40th anniversary celebrations as part of the open cockpit event at our region’s Air Museum.
Being a fine day the crowds were exceptional and keen to climb aboard the various exhibits; it was not surprising that the longest line-up was for a turn in the star exhibit of the F1-11 jet. The place was buzzing and a testament to this dedicated band of volunteers who have developed this remarkable collection since 1974.
Congratulations to all involved and I'm looking forward to working with the museum to help take this facility to national prominence.
Recycle stations open on Thursdays
A recent trial to a change in the operating hours of Council’s Recycling Markets at the Caloundra and Beerwah Waste Facility centres proved popular with residents so both markets will now open on Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am to 2pm, with Witta open on Saturdays only from 9am to 2pm.
If you’ve never visited the recycle markets I encourage you to call in and take a look around as each market is operated by a local not-for-profit organisation with proceeds from sales going back into local communities.
It’s important to note that these changes in operating times apply only to the recycle markets - please visit Council’s website or call Customer Service to check the opening hours of the Waste Facility centres.
Out & About
I will be available to talk to residents about Division 1 issues on Friday, July 25 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at Beerwah Library. With lots happening in the division and the region, this is a great opportunity to hear from you on all thing’s council.
For those who prefer social media, I am now on Facebook. Search for Cr Rick Baberowski – Division 1.
I’m interested to see how it goes, Facebook should provide that digital anywhere, anytime more immediate access to up-to-date news and information specific to Division 1.
