I was really pleased to recently attend the official opening of the remarkable new model Baringa State Primary School by the Queensland Premier. Since the year’s commencement, just over six months ago the State’s first science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) school welcomed more than 320 students. The opening showcase performed by the students was a real credit to the schools leadership team, entire staff, parents and students of the school and it showed just how passionate they are about this next generation facility.
I sincerely appreciate being kept informed of the community's concerns when council's procedures and practices just don't seem to make sense or seem overly difficult. I cannot always make it immediately perfect, but was pleased to assist in a recent example of this for the local Kawana Forest Resident's Association after receiving their constructive feedback on their frustrating experience in hosting a community event. This resulted in them working together with council staff to organise significantly better arrangements for their future events.
Lillypilly Court Park playground replacement
Parks are fantastic public spaces and Kawana Forest residents can soon look forward to a much improved playground at Lillypilly Court Park. What started as a scheduled rope climb replacement for maintenance reasons, is now going to be a much expanded play structure that kids can climb, slide and explore with an additional separate double swing. Council’s Project Delivery branch aim to have the works completed in time for the December school holidays.
