Re-discover the Region
I see the first HORIZON festival of arts and culture as an invitation for the hinterland region to join with the coastal areas in an arts/cultural celebration. The Sunshine Coast region will embrace and showcase cultural creatives in all areas of the arts, performance and literature. Thought-provoking talks, engaging sculpture, block party, art competitions, workshops, design technology, culinary delights, visual art and music will all be on the menu served up over ten days from September 2 -11. The full HORIZON program is available on the festival website – www.horizonfestival.com.au or alternatively, please call my office on 5420 8987 and we can post a copy of the program highlights.
Art Prize 2016
Forty incredible artworks have been unveiled at Caloundra Regional Gallery for the Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2016 finalist exhibition. The Art Prize is regarded as one of the nation’s leading regional art awards and I encourage everyone to visit the gallery to see the artworks for themselves. The exhibition is on display until Sunday, October 2.
The Glass House Mountains Community Hall is celebrating its centenary and a ‘Back to Glass House Day’ is to be held this Saturday, 10th September from 10am. For 100 years the Hall has played a significant role in the local community and the committee is keen to celebrate the role that the Hall has played during this time and to showcase its long history. Come and celebrate with entertainment, displays, historical memorabilia and lots of reminiscing. Mayor Mark Jamieson will perform the official opening at 11am.
A great way for our newer residents to discover our region’s hinterland heritage is to use council’s cultural heritage ‘Discovery Guide’. Copies are available from libraries, customer contact centres and local museums. Alternatively, please call my office on 5420 8987 and we can post you a copy.
With less than five months until Christmas, now is the time for business groups to apply for council grants to help with decorating business centres during the festive season. There is $5000 in funding available for Division 1. Find details about the application process and guidelines on council’s website.
Meet and Greet
Thank you to the many residents who came to see me at my last Meet and Greet session in Beerwah. If there are any outstanding items that you are awaiting a response on, please contact my office on 5420 8987 to follow up.
