Last week Council announced it will retain the naming rights of the Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct (formerly Stockland Park). This new direction provides an opportunity to better promote the region’s premier sport, recreation and events venue – and the wider Sunshine Coast – to a local, state, national and international audience.
Each year the precinct injects millions of dollars into the local economy by attracting international, national, state and local games across a range of codes, training camps, travelling shows, community events as well as major music and entertainment events. This naming decision strengthens Council’s commitment towards sourcing and securing new major events which will help promote the Coast and shape a globally competitive economy in our region.
The 45 hectare Kawana Sports Precinct consists of the re-branded Sunshine Coast Stadium, Lake Kawana, Kawana Aquatic Centre, Eastern Fields and the Western Fields.
Removing weeds from the coastal pathway
Council recently engaged contractors to remove larger weed species – including broad leaf pepper trees and lantana – from the proposed coastal pathway alignment behind the Bokarina beachcourts. Council will follow up by spraying the noxious asparagus fern and other smaller weeds over the coming months.
Want to discuss local issues?
Come along to my ‘councillor catch-up’ sessions if you would like to discuss any local issues or council projects. The next one is Friday 25 July from 9-11am at the Lake Kawana Blood Bank site (just north of the Nicklin Way and Lake Kawana Blvd intersection, before Carwash Central).
