Cr Dwyer - Skatepark safety upgrade
  • Tuesday 22 September 2015

Council will be investing in a new fit-for-purpose fence at the skatepark at the Caloundra Aquatic Lifestyle Centre to improve the safety at one of the Coast’s most popular outdoor areas for our kids and teenagers.

To provide peace of mind for parents and guardians, the skatepark is fully fenced and supervised by staff  who are also on hand to provide first aid services and attend to any emergencies.

I know there are many parents who appreciate these extra safety aspects.

Unfortunately there have been cases where wire cutters and other tools have been used to illegally access the site, setting a bad example to impressionable young kids and avoiding the fees which make it possible for the extra safety aspects and facilities to be provided.

The Central Park sporting precinct enjoys a great reputation in our community and we want to make sure that always extends to the skatepark.

The small entry fee that is charged also includes going for a cool down swim in the pool, and using the showers and toilets, making it great value for money.

There are other skate bowls in the area which remain free of charge if riders prefer that option.

Park trail complete

I am pleased to announce that construction at Ben Bennett Bushland Park in Caloundra is complete.

Works included constructing a coloured bitumen trail and extensive repairs to the existing bitumen trail. This trail snakes from Queen Street to West Terrace providing far greater access for many more patrons

There’s sealed access to the small observation deck and boardwalk which surround the pond inside the reserve.

A drain was also constructed to alleviate existing pond issues, especially after weather events.

The coloured bitumen trail will substantially reduce maintenance whilst retaining all the character of a ‘bushland track’.

I’m sure our park goers will appreciate the improvements and I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t been there recently to check it out.
