Cr Hungerford - Remembering our heritage
  • Friday 23 September 2016

I’m extremely proud of the rich history of the Buderim-Palmwoods Heritage Tramway, so it will come as no surprise my support and enjoyment of the launch of the Full Steam Ahead film recently honouring and preserving its memory.

This tramway was built to service the needs of the farmers and residents of Buderim and district, with many wonderful stories about its journeys passed down through generations. I can clearly remember my own grandfather telling me how he used to love watching the train as it made its trek up the mountain many years ago.

A massive thank you to the many partners and community members who contributed to this important film.

I strongly urge all locals to take a step back in time and check out one of the viewings of the Heritage Tramway films happening across the Coast – see council’s website for details.

The 100th anniversary memorial of Sergeant Eric Foote was also held recently at Buderim Foote Sanctuary. Sgt Foote was sadly killed in the fighting at the Somme during the First World War. May he rest in peace and his legacy live on.

Exciting major sports complex makeover revealed

I also had the opportunity recently to attend the official opening of the newly upgraded Maroochydore Junior Rugby League Complex on Wises Rd, Buderim.

The facility has a new grandstand seating around 1000 spectators, two new change rooms, a referees room, first aid room and persons with disabilities amenities.

The $1.6M project was partly funded by the state government and council along with divisional funding from myself and Division 4 Cr John Connolly.

I look forward to seeing the new and improved facility enjoyed by local and junior rugby league teams as well as for many other events.

Keeping our communities connected

Residents will be happy to learn new pathways, links and extensions continues to be top of council’s agenda to help keep pedestrians and cyclists safe and connected as they move about their local neighbourhoods.

This month we’ll complete work on an extension along Deloraine and Whitehaven Drives, Buderim providing access for local residents travelling from Deloraine through to Immanuel Gardens Retirement Village as well as a formal link between Ironbark Road and Paluma Terrace, Buderim.
