Koala spotting results
A big thank you to everyone for their involvement in an absolutely fantastic day Koala spotting at the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden recently.
We had a great turnout of 68 eager citizen scientists. Unfortunately we weren’t able to find any new koalas however managed to find some great leads in terms of fresh scats and scratching, so hopefully the search team will be able to narrow their focus. There certainly is an appetite for similar activities in the future.
The tracking program is just one of many components of council’s Environment Levy funded Koala Conservation Plan aimed at protecting the vulnerable local koala population through a greater understanding of their habitat requirements and threats to their conservation.
