Cr McKay - New market hits hinterland
  • Monday 17 October 2016

Well done to the fantastic stallholders – all 50 plus of them – and market manager, Helen Langlois, for the wonderful new Hinterland Harvest Market launched last Saturday at the Suncoast College Carpark, Woombye.

I joined members of the local community as well as residents from all around the Coast and further afield to enjoy a feast of fresh flavours, produce and artisan products.

If you haven’t already, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to purchase beautiful fresh produce, plants and food directly from our local growers – you won’t be disappointed.

Out with the old…

Do you have a lot of large, bulky or awkward household items cluttering up your home?

Council has just launched a new online waste collection service directory so you can find out how to get rid of your unwanted waste quickly and easily while supporting local businesses.

Check it out on council’s website.

First-of-its-kind report given green light

In an unprecedented move, council has shown we are well and truly ahead of the pack by releasing a sustainability benchmarking report, demonstrating our steadfast commitment to  becoming Australia’s most sustainable region.

The Sunshine Coast Council Organisational Environmental Sustainability Benchmarking Report 2015/2016 provides an annual snapshot of the organisation’s greenhouse gas footprint and sustainability performance.

One of the key findings the report reveals is that council has increased landfill gas flaring by 52% since 2014/15 with the introduction of additional infrastructure at council landfills. This is equivalent to taking approximately 12,000 vehicles off the road a year.
