Cr McKay - Our future greenies take action
  • Thursday 01 September 2016

I’m looking forward to meeting with more than 350 school children from all over our region today and tomorrow, where they will challenge the way we think about sustainability in our day-to-day lives as part of the 2016 Kids in Action Conference.

This conference effectively inspires and fosters our future environmental leaders and is aligned with council’s vision to achieve long-term cultural change in the way we look after and interact with our environment.

Have your say

Council is developing a draft master plan for the Conondale Memorial Recreation Park and we want to hear what you think.

The draft plan identified future requirements for facilities and infrastructure, and future management arrangements while remaining consistent with community demand as well as protecting the site’s environmental values.

There are several ways you can provide feedback – jump onto council’s website for all the details.

Local football team returns from China as champions

It was with much pride I joined representatives from Visit Sunshine Coast, Football Queensland and Sunshine Coast Football at a welcome home event last week for our Sunshine Coast football team – champions of the Xiamen youth football tournament in China.

Captain Tyler Morse showed off the winning cup to me and our friendship city also presented us with a special gift. Well done to our team who were great ambassadors and thanks to everyone who helped them on a memorable trip.

Save money and the environment at the same time

Did you know you can discard up to three old mattresses for no charge at council’s resource recovery facilities?

And it doesn’t stop there, at no cost you can also dispose of unwanted whitegoods (including fridges), gas bottles, e-waste, scrap metals, domestic quantities of oil and pesticides and many other recyclables.

It’s win – win, save money and help the environment at the same time.
