Hand carved doors opened at Mary Cairncross Rainforest Reserve
I had the pleasure of joining Mayor Jamieson to officially open the hand crafted wooden doors in their home at the Mary Cairncross Rainforest Discovery Centre.
The doors took the Blackall Range “Woodies” more than 1000 hot hours to carve and are just part of the outstanding contribution the guild makes to the Sunshine Coast community.
What they’ve produced here for everyone to see at Mary Cairncross is simply magnificent. The doors are such a fitting welcome statement for the new centre.
Sister cities association welcomes wood carvers to the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Today we will officially welcome two woodcarvers visiting the Sunshine Coast on a reciprocal visit –Cecile Sakilia from New Caledonia, Tekohu Taupotini from the Marquesa Islands. Our guests will be making two hand-carved gate sentinels and taking part in the Maleny Wood Expo which kicks off this evening. The Maleny Wood Expo is a wonderful event and I encourage those who haven’t been before to come and see all the incredible works and techniques on display.
