Sunshine Valley Men’s Shed
It was with much pleasure I recently attended the official dedication ceremony of land in Woombye to Sunshine Valley Men’s Shed.

The event was to recognise and honour the generous gift of this land by Ray Grace to help improve men’s health and well-being, while developing a strong local community.

Men’s Sheds are such wonderful initiatives that provide a place where men of different ages and backgrounds can hang out, work together and talk. With around 1000 Men’s Sheds nationally, the main objective of the groups is to prevent social isolation of men and the associated health risks, and contribute to the community, and I am so happy to have this new shed in our hinterland region.

Thank you Ray for this incredible gift.

Nambour parkrun
Did you know the hinterland community is on the cusp of joining the free global community-running phenomenon – parkrun?

I’m very excited to have been invited to help launch the first 5km Nambour parkrun event this Saturday at 7am at Parklands Regional Park. So, whether you are a taking your first steps in running or exercising in general, or you are a professional athlete, a junior, or someone with plenty of running experience, I highly encourage you to come along and enjoy a healthy and fun way to start the weekend.

Travellers rate Montville top of the pops
While we already know how fabulous Montville is for everything from its restaurants, wineries, craft and clothing shops, it was wonderful to have it recognised and awarded nationally for having the best accommodation.
The accommodation providers of our historic town ranked number one on the 2015 Australian Hotel Reputation Rankings released by Trivago, the world’s largest online hotel search site.

A special congratulations to the Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat at Montville, rating number four in Australia for the best hotel with a 95.02 rating that also ranked it number two in Queensland and the best on the Sunshine Coast.

Well done and well deserved!

Go The Toads!
Congratulations to the Nambour Rugby Union Club (The Toads) for winning the very prestigious Community Award at the 2015 Premiers Sustainability Award earlier this month. The Toads won this award for, in part, being able to create perhaps Australia’s first organically certified sporting oval. I’m pleased council was able to lend some assistance to the group towards their sustainable field and lighting projects.

Road works
Heads up Main Roads is undertaking road slip repairs on Woombye Montville Road from November 23-26 between the hours of 7pm to 5am. The section of road will be closed between Kirby Road and MacDonald’s road. Signage will be in place directing motorists to alternate routes.
