Cr McKay - Supporting my community
  • Thursday 14 August 2014

I’m always pleased to be able to support our wonderful local community groups by chipping in some funding from my discretionary funds towards their various ventures, upgrades and the like.
One such project I’m excited about is the Palmwoods community Spring Festival coming up on September 13. Be sure to mark your diary for this wonderful event featuring market stalls, entertainment, free children’s activities, a family outdoor movie and much more.

I was also able to help the Eudlo Rural Fire Brigade with their extension and renovations to their existing building to help facilitate safe, efficient operations and attract new volunteer recruits.
This also provides a timely reminder leading into what is traditionally known as peak fire season. Please be aware of this and be careful. See Queensland Fire and Rescue Service’s website for your responsibilities if and when you are needing to light a fire. Council is also doing our part to minimise the risk to people and infrastructure by carrying out control burns over the coming weeks in at risk areas throughout the region.

NBN roll-out
I have been receiving some inquiries regarding possible new sites for the southern part of the Sunshine Coast by NBN Co for towers as they grow the network connection here. Council does not have any information about specific sites but understand that areas in Divisions 1 and 5 are being investigated by NBN Co for suitability. For further information about the fixed wireless build, phone NBN Co on 1800 687 626 or visit their website at

Delays of up to 10 minutes can be expected for motorists while the pavement work is underway. Lengthy delays will be scheduled outside peak traffic times.
