Cr McKay - There’s something big on the Horizon

The countdown is well and truly on now for the massive new arts and culture festival lighting up and entertaining the Sunshine Coast region from the hinterland to the sea, north to south.

From thought-provoking talks, engaging sculptures, block parties and art competitions to workshops, design technology, culinary delight and visual art and music, resident will embrace the exciting cultural creatives menu served up over ten days from September 2 to 11, 2016.

A stand-out for me would be the Kenilworth Arty Garden Party over the weekend of September 3 and 4, featuring a botanical trail of open gardens, workshops, talks, design, sculpture, music and food in Cambroon, Kenilworth, and Walli Creek.

Another one at the top of my list would have to be the Colour the Street event in Nambour on September 3 from 4-8.30pm.

Come along and check out the dynamic urban block party featuring 3D chalk art, live music, Indigenous dance, slam poetry, street theatre, projections, lanterns, puppetry, laser light show and arts exhibition in the Old Ambulance Station.

A fantastic choice for Father’s Day on September 4 is the Spring Vibes event at Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens from 11am-3pm.

Bring a picnic and enjoy live music, performances, story-telling, free workshops in nest box building, solitary bee presentations, bush games, kite making, cats claw weaving, cooking demonstrations and view the finalists of the 2016 Sunshine Coast Environment Photography Awards exhibition in a stunning bushland setting.

Phew! And that’s only three of more than 220 events taking place region-wide. For more details including a full program, check out
