The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games are still seven weeks away but here on the Sunshine Coast the games fever is about to heat up!

In just a couple of weeks from now our region will start to become the home base for more than 500 Commonwealth Games athletes and officials from Australia, Scotland, Wales, England, Saint Helena, Niue and the Isle of Man.

They’ll be here until early April as part of their preparations for the main event which kicks off on April 4.

There’s a heap of activities planned to welcome our overseas guests and everyone’s invited to the party! On Sunday March 25 from 2pm there’ll be a free community event in Cotton Tree Park, Maroochydore. You’ll be able to meet international athletes, try your hand at some Commonwealth Games sports and enjoy a variety of cultural displays and culinary delights!

The traditional Queens Baton Relay will also make its way through our region on Tuesday March 27. There’ll be a free community celebration event at the Kings Beach Amphitheatre, Caloundra from 9:20am. Check out council’s home page right now for full details!
