I’ve got some good news and some great news.. The good news – Council’s Major Events program delivered an economic benefit of more than $342 million to the Sunshine Coast over the last five years. The GREAT news – council has released its new Major Events Strategy 2018-27 which will ensure our region continues to reap enormous financial and social benefits from big events for at least the next decade.
The strategy was given the official thumbs up at the most recent council meeting and it aims to ensure the Sunshine Coast builds on the momentum of previous years when it comes to hosting major events. We’ve enjoyed some awesome results over the last five years in particular and we’re not going to drop the ball now!
The new strategy has a strong focus on realising longer term benefits from successful event funding programs, creating more destination awareness and greater promotion of our region as a whole.

Another great year in Division 8
A $2.1 million revitalisation of Pacific Paradise’s commercial and cultural precinct, a $639,100 extension to the highly popular Mudjimba Holiday Park and $1.6 million of important road reseals and rehabilitation works are among the many exciting and valuable projects council delivered in Division 8 in the past year.
Other important additions during the 17/18 financial year include renewals to revetment walls at Picnic Point and Bradman Avenue, Maroochydore, more than $500,000 in upgrades and additions in local parks and playgrounds and more than $1.5 million towards making roads safer for motorists and pedestrians through council’s reseal and rehabilitation program.
We also completed a successful road widening project on an important transport corridor on Maud St in Maroochydore and repair and replacement works were carried out at the Chambers Island Bridge. Along with this we carried out significant upgrades to drainage facilities on First Ave and Aerodrome Rd at Maroochydore.
Lovin’ the Sunshine Coast.
