Bars, restaurants and gardens could be popping up on rooftops in some of our key coastal tourism precincts following council’s decision to amend the planning scheme for rooftop uses.
This amendment provides further support to some of our key tourism precincts and makes a clear statement that we’re open to these options in the future. Rooftop dining is a trend that’s become popular and very successful in cities like Sydney and Melbourne and with our great weather and stunning views, it’s an exciting opportunity for the Sunshine Coast!
The small additional building height allowance provided under these new provisions will only apply to a limited number of areas in Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland and Coolum.
Spring into a sizzling summer of sport!
Did you catch a glimpse of the Melbourne Victory during their visit last week? The A-League champions headed north with their international superstar recruit Keisuke Honda to kick off their pre-season with a training camp on the Sunshine Coast. They also invited fans along for an open training and fan engagement session at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
Our region has certainly become a regular home away from home for elite sporting teams across a number of codes and once again we’ve extended invites for several teams to host their pre-season camps here – so watch this space for details as they come to hand in the coming weeks!
Cotton Tree park upgrades
I’m happy to advise that upgrades and removal of the Liberty Swing at the Cotton Tree Park Playground is scheduled to start on Monday October 8. Works are expected to take approximately 10 weeks, with the aim to have it all finished prior to the December School Holidays.
Lovin’ the Sunshine Coast!
