Light rail investigation on track
Council has released initial findings on the suitability of a light rail transport system for the Sunshine Coast and is seeking community feedback about this future transport option.
The Sunshine Coast Light Rail—Shaping our Future document highlights that the region’s population is forecast to grow 50% over the next two decades, with a large proportion expected to occur between Caloundra and Maroochydore. The research shows that growth would contribute to a doubling of traffic along key north-south routes on the Coast unless alternative transport solutions are found.
I am a great supporter of light rail as the core of an integrated regional public transport system because I believe in the many additional benefits it can bring to a community.
I encourage everyone to visit council’s website or visit your local library or customer contact centre to learn more about light rail and to provide your thoughts and comments.
The Glass House Country Festival gets underway on Friday afternoon with the much anticipated celebration of the transformed Simpson Street. Together, council and the community have put a lot of effort into this project over the last few years and the end result is one that we can all take pride in. I invite you to join your Division 1 neighbours and head out to Beerwah to experience the new Simpson St and the festival which runs from 17 to 26 October.
