A $23 million commitment
Council maintains more than 2200km of roads across the region through its Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program to ensure they are safe for motorists. The 2016/17 program will improve more than 80km across 193 roads, including Peregian Springs Drive. Please slow down and follow traffic directions near all road works, for your safety and that of the people working on the roads. Visit council’s website to check which roads will be improved this month.
Be an early bird
Rates notices have started to arrive and I encourage property owners to take advantage of the early bird discount. Pay your rates before February 17 to receive 5% off, up to a maximum of $100 discount each six months. You can also subscribe to receive future rates notices via email. Visit council’s website for more information.
New to the Sunshine Coast in 2017? Grab a new residents’ pack from your nearest council office, or request one on council’s website and we’ll send it to you. The pack will help you stay connected with council and highlights some of the great services and events we have available here on the Sunshine Coast.
U3A Open Day
I had the privilege of officially launching the University of the Third Age Open Day (U3A) recently. It’s a non-profit organisation with over 2000 members attending more than 200 courses each year. Their motto is ‘never stop learning’. The open day was well attended, with information provided on courses ranging from yoga, languages and computer studies. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of U3A, so I congratulate the organisation on a long lasting, worthwhile initiative.
