An exciting project for Bli Bli

In this month's edition of the Bli Bli Bulletin you will see the plans for the Bli Bli Streetscape and New Public Park. Council has designed this to work in with the Bli Bli Village project. I encourage you to take a look.

Horizon Festival 2018 program unveiled

Council recently unveiled an impressive 2018 program for Horizon Festival. It’s a packed 10 day program with even more local content this year – you can dip your toes in, or really immerse yourself and step outside your comfort zone. There are free and ticketed events across the region, including the Dawn Awakening finale event at Stumers Creek, which will honour the Glossy Black Cockatoo through music, dance and spoken word alongside stunning visual art installations and projections.  Visit www.horizonfestival.com.au for the full program.

25 years of country music

It was a privilege to attend the Maroochy River Country Music Club’s 25th Year Celebration Concert. The concert consisted of visiting artists as well as local club singers putting on a fantastic show to provide a great day of entertainment for over 150 attendees. This event was proudly supported by council’s Community Grants program. Congratulations to Kev Rimmington and Lynda Hansen who received presentations as founding and life members of the club.

Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary

I have enjoyed a couple of visits to the Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary in recent times, the first being to present prizes for the 2018 Eco Hunt. This citizen science project was undertaken over the school holidays to encourage families to visit the wetlands and engage with the natural flora and fauna in this beautiful sanctuary. Prizes were donated by local businesses and resulted in increased participation by visitors. A range of different bees, ants, butterflies, beetles, birds, crabs, shells, flies, mosquitoes and millipedes were spotted.

I also attended the Wetlands Sanctuary AGM and congratulated the committee for their ongoing work in support of this environmental haven.
