Community funding

In keeping with the Christmas spirit, the Coolum Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) provided their latest round of community benefit fund presentations earlier this month. This outstanding initiative provides much-needed funds for local not for profit charitable groups. The recipients were our local Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, Quota Club and Meals on Wheels, along with Coolum Hearts and Coolum and North Shore Coast Care. These groups do a phenomenal job for our community and are worthy recipients. A huge thank you to the SLSC for keeping our beaches safe and for their wider support of the Coolum and district communities.

Coolum Hearts

Speaking of Coolum Hearts, council has provided a recently vacated facility for the group and I recently met with council staff on site to work through the necessary approvals required for some improvements. This TLC will make the facility more user friendly for the friends and relatives of Coolum Hearts. This outstanding organisation does wonderful work for the less fortunate people in our community and I am proud council is able to assist them.

Coolum aquatic centre

I recently visited the Coolum Aquatic Centre to discuss future plans for the facility. As part of council’s Capital Works Program a $350,000 upgrade is scheduled for the centre this financial year, which includes retiling the pool.  Over the longer term council will also consider funding options for other improvements to the complex to create a better experience for our residents and visitors.
