Domestic Violence Symposium
It was an honour to meet Australian of the Year Rosie Batty at the Sunshine Coast Domestic and Family Violence Symposium. As you may know, Sunshine Coast Council is a strong advocate against domestic violence. I felt Rosie’s personal story and her insight into this terrible scourge was something the attendees will never forget. Everyone in council is fully committed to doing everything we can to reduce domestic violence in our community.
Carols in Coolum
Regrettably, this year’s Coolum Christmas carols had to be relocated to the Coolum Christian Church due to poor weather. Nevertheless, we had a terrific turnout with hundreds of families and friends gathered (with Santa of course) for a great night of storytelling, carols and fellowship. Congratulations and sincere thanks to Pastor Rod Holt and his hardworking committee for making it all a great success despite last minute changes.
What’s happening in Weyba Downs
It was great to be invited along for the Weyba Downs Residents Association AGM. The meeting gave me an opportunity to update the community on a number of council projects and answer many questions on specific local issues. This association is very much engaged with many community issues, including rural roads, bushfire management, traffic concerns for the Sunshine Coast Motorway and general council service matters. I will be addressing these matters with the group in the near future and thank them for inviting me along to the AGM.
You’ll probably be reading this on Christmas Eve, so again I’d like to wish you all the best for the festive season. By now, Santa is on his way – I hope he’s good to you this year.
