Future careers for local kids

I recently visited the principals of our wonderful Division 9 high schools to talk about council's Future Careers initiative. This program has been developed to help schools guide students towards pathways that will help them secure a future career here on the Sunshine Coast. One highlight of this initiative is a hands-on open day where students will get up close and personal with real word technology and tools. It’s on May 23 at Lake Kawana Community Centre – keep an eye out for more information closer to the date.

Thanks to our emergency services

Despite incredibly hot weather, there was a fantastic turnout at the recent community barbecue held to thank and recognise the hardworking fire and emergency services teams and supporting organisations (including council) who helped battle the Coolum blaze.  A huge thank you to Peter and the organising committee for arranging the North Arm State School Marimba Band to say thank you to the local brigades for their tenacity and bravery in keeping the community safe.

New commercial partner for Sunshine Coast Airport

Palisade Investment Partners will be the Sunshine Coast Airport’s commercial operating partner in a deal worth more than half a billion dollars. Council will maintain responsibility for facilitating the proposed airport expansion project, which includes construction of a new runway, apron expansion and related infrastructure. Read further details about the deal at www.news.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

Solar farm update

With more than half of the 57,000 solar panels installed and the Energex substation nearing completion the project is well on track to be completed in the middle of this year. The response to aerial photos posted on council’s Facebook has been fantastic – take a look if you haven’t already.
