Following the success of the inaugural festival in 2016, Horizon festival of arts and culture is seeking exciting new and existing arts and cultural events and activities to promote with its already strong program of events to be held from August 25 – September 3. If you are planning a conservation project on your land, now is the time to lodge an expression of interest in securing one of council’s Landholder Environment Grants. Head to council’s website and submit an EOI by midnight on Monday, February 20.

Art prize winner exhibition

The winner of council’s 2016 Sunshine Coast Art Prize, Michael Cook, now has an exhibit at Caloundra Regional Gallery. It’s on display until February 26 so take a look if you’re down the other end of the coast.

U3A Open Day

I had the privilege of officially launching the University of the Third Age Open Day (U3A) recently. U3A Sunshine Coast is a non-profit self-help organisation with over 2000 members attending more than 200 courses each year. Their motto is ‘never stop learning’. The open day was well attended, with information provided on courses ranging from yoga, languages and computer studies. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of U3A, so I congratulate the organisation on a long lasting, worthwhile initiative.
