25 years of croquet

Thanks to the Coolum Croquet Club for inviting me to the recent 25th birthday Mad Hatters afternoon tea celebration. It was terrific to see such a great turnout for this important occasion. There was plenty of food and croquet, of course, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. Twenty five years is a long time for a club to be supporting its community and I would like to acknowledge the wonderful contribution the club have made over the last 25 years.

Multi-sports at Peregian

I recently attended a meeting with council officers at Peregian Springs to investigate options for a proposed multi-purpose children's play area. Based on residents' feedback, there is a need for more variety in children's recreational activities in the area. Three possible locations were identified for this new facility and we will consult with the community on these options in the near future.

An international festival

Exciting news: Coolum’s inaugural International Readers and Writers Festival is one step closer after a very impressive artwork, which will be used as a key part of the festival’s brand, was unveiled. The artist is Jandamarra Cadd, a Sunshine Coast local and Archibald Prize finalist with strong indigenous heritage. The festival’s founder and director, Wendy O’Hanlon, is doing a fantastic job pulling this event together. It’s on September 9-11 and has received a $10,000 Major Community Grant from Sunshine Coast Council.

Worthy grant recipients

Other groups in Division 9 to receive a Major Community Grant include unFramed 2016, a curated ‘art in public place exhibition’, and AusfunkPower Inc, who will purchase equipment for a dedicated competitive cheerleading and dance team for children with hearing impairments.

Meet and greet

Come along to the Coolum Library on May 25 any time between 1-3pm to tell me what local issues are important to you.
