Opening of Coolum Sports Complex

I was really pleased to attend the official opening of the new field and facilities at Coolum Sports Complex last week. The upgrades are a significant addition to the facility and provide more opportunities for junior sport in Coolum – cricket in summer and football in winter. Thanks to Chris Whiting MP for Murrumba, Fiona Simpson MP for Maroochydore and all other attendees for coming to the event, and to the State Government for contributing significant funding to the project.

Relocation of community centre

Last week council commenced its community engagement process to inform key stakeholders of the new location for the Coolum Community Centre, on council land at the corner of Banksia Ave and Jones Parade. This site was chosen because it is close to Coolum Beach town centre, footpaths and public transport, and other community facilities. It will also have car parking on site. If you would like to discuss the project in person, come to the Coolum Library on 15 June between 1-3pm or contact David Cooper on 5441 8411 or .

Yandina Creek Progress Association

I was recently invited to present at the Yandina Creek Progress Association community forum. The forum was held at the Coolum Christian College and was well attended by local residents. The key issues raised included the potential noise impacts of the new Sunshine Coast Airport runway, how the new solar farm will visually impact Mt Ninderry residents and the ongoing negotiations regarding the conditions of approval for the Yandina Creek quarry. I would like to thank the residents for attending the forum and for their straightforward questions. I have committed to follow up on the draft quarry conditions and to provide further information on the noise impacts of the runway. Congratulations to group president Alex Watson on arranging these community meetings.
