Planning a new trail

Council is planning to deliver a trail approximately 48km long that links Nambour to Coolum and we want to hear what you think. It would provide an east-west recreation link across the region to connect the hinterland with the Coastal Pathway. The trail is subject to approval and will be planned and delivered in stages over a 20 year period. You can view the Draft Trail and have your say on council’s website before Monday October 17. It’s also on display various locations including the Coolum Library.

A great first festival

What a fantastic week at Coolum, thanks to the inaugural 2016 Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival. This was a brilliant event with top line artists, performers and other creatives. The highlights for me were the official opening ceremony with the Welcome to Country by the Gubbi Gubbi people, and an amazing line up of singer/songwriters, slam poetry and comedians. I was also impressed by how insightful and entertaining the workshops were. A huge congratulations to Wendy O'Hanlon and the committee for putting it all together – I hope there are many more years of this festival.

Grants up for grabs

2017 marks the 50th Anniversary of the naming of the Sunshine Coast. Local community groups and organisations are invited apply for grants for projects, events and activities that support the anniversary and its legacy. Grants up to $20,000 are available and applications close October 31. There will also be another round of grants up to $2000 available next year. Further details are available on council’s website.
