Welcome to new citizens

It was terrific to be a part of the Australian Citizenship Ceremony held at Coolum State School. With more than 160 new Australians receiving their citizenship, the ceremony was a huge family affair with hundreds of family and friends attending to witness this wonderful occasion. I would like to congratulate all of the new citizens for their commitment to this great nation.

Nominate for Australia Day Awards

I recently attended the launch of the 2017 Australia Day Awards. I would encourage everyone to think about nominating their local heroes – these awards are all about recognising hard working members of our community and in speaking with last year's winners, I know they have found the whole experience to be incredibly humbling but rewarding. For more information visit council’s website.

Coolum Business and Tourism AGM

I recently attended the Coolum Business and Tourism Annual General Meeting to elect the new committee. I would like to congratulate incoming president Murray Noyce the new committee and sincerely thank past president Malcolm Chilman for his contribution to the business community.

Traffic solutions

A number of traffic and signage issues at Peregian Beach College were brought to my attention by Member for Noosa Glen Elmes and representatives from the Parents and Friends Association. At a site meeting it was clear there are some important safety issues that require further consideration by state government and council. Both Glen and I are committed to working with the school and other stakeholders to find a solution.
