Cr Rogerson - Budget seals deal on roads
  • Friday 11 July 2014

A few weeks ago I invited locals to share their opinions with me on the suitability of a dog-off-leash area with the Mapleton Lilliponds Park. Whilst I’ve received very limited feedback on this, I’m aware that there is great community support for the walkway around the Lillyponds so I’m going full steam ahead with that. The walkway would need to be installed in stages as per available funding from council and its actual construction will require very careful engineering due to the water seepage that comes through in this area of the park.

Once things are up and running with this walkway, I also intend on having some terrific outdoor fitness equipment installed alongside. Of course this will be taking into account the hundreds of locals who use the nearby fitness centre at the Mapleton Bowls Club.

Budget bonus

Last year I tabled a petition recommending a 1.1km section of Delicia Road at Mapleton be sealed from the McLeod Road intersection to the Daymar Road intersection. Linda Garrett Park, Teralba and the Mapleton cemetery all sit along this stretch of Delicia Road and draw significant traffic to justify its sealing. The road in its existing state has also been slippery and treacherous at times so I’m absolutely rapt for the Hinterland community that we’ve had a major win andthis stretch of Delicia Road will be sealed. Around $1million has been allocated towards the sealing of Delicia Road under council’s 2014/15 budget and these works are likely to start in around May next year. Another $600,000 will be spent in the following financial year to complete this project.

Volunteers needed!

The Kureelpa Hall Committee Annual General Meeting is coming up and now is the time to think about whether you’d like be a part of this important community organisation. The existing committee members have all held their positions for a number of years and all portfolios will become vacant at the AGM. New people with fresh ideas and enthusiasm are welcome to put their hand up to assist with continuing the management of this great community facility. The AGM will be held at the Kureelpa Hall on Tuesday, August 19 at 7:30pm. Please consider offering some valuable time for your Community.

See you round the range soon, Rogo.
