An update on our Heroes Walk
The Anzac Day deadline for completion of the Nambour Heroes Walk is looming and I’m pleased to say construction is well underway. Of course, we plan to have this wonderful project finalised well before it’s put to use as part of the commemorations – not on the 25 April itself! Thank you to the contractors who are doing a fantastic job to keep this on schedule.
Well done also to the Council crews who were quick to clean up in Quota Park after the recent flooding. If we had our time over again, it would be ideal to avoid having playgrounds and public amenities in flood prone areas – but we work with what we have, and the quick clean up meant this area was safe and back in action for the community very soon after that water receded.
Have you seen C-Square?
It was great to see another vibrant event in Nambour recently – this time it was ‘A Taste of C-Square’. The area, previously referred to by locals as Centenary Square, came alive with musicians, gallery openings, and a range of food experiences. There was a great buzz in the air and by all accounts, I think this has the makings of an ongoing local event. Tracy Martin and John Sorrentino, owners of C-Square organised it – thanks for a great time!
Get your wings in Nambour
I was one of the first to “get my wings” with New York artist Kelsey Montague’s #whatliftsyou artwork at Nambour Civic Centre foyer last week. The temporary installation is only in Nambour until April 15, so make sure you drop in for a look soon!
It was good to see an excellent roll-up of RSL and business associates mingling at Nambour RSL for the recent AGM of the Sunshine Coast chapter of Legacy Queensland as expected. They all had a one-minded approach to helping widows of ex-servicemen and for me, it retriggered the enormous commitment and sacrifices our ex-servicemen and women undertook in serving their country.
A Nambour star!
Thank you to Rhonda Billett who is chair of the Nambour Retailers Group, a sub-section of Nambour Alliance, and owner of Uptown Hair Studio. It never ceases to amaze me how one person can demonstrate so much enthusiasm, dedication and passion for their community! After this ‘plug’ I trust Rhonda will continue in her present role, indefinitely!
