Cr Thompson - Keeping your calm
  • Friday 11 July 2014

Motorists using Mayfield St, Alexandra Headland will soon feel a whole lot calmer with council about to slow traffic, making it safer for those living in the area and using the road.

Traffic calming will be installed in three areas to decrease speeding between Alexandra Pde and Buderim Ave – between Victor and George Sts, near William St and near Juan and Edward Sts.

The project is expected to start late this month and take about four weeks, depending on weather.

Budget builds a stronger community

I was pleased with the outcome of council’s budget for Division 4 residents.

Some of the biggest projects include $2.3 million for road, cycleway and streetscape works on Brisbane Rd, Mooloolaba and $885,000 towards stormwater drainage upgrades at Surf Rd, Maroochydore and Okinja Rd, Alexandra Headland (in partnership with the State Government).

Another $250,000 is budgeted for Buhk Family Park at Alexandra Headland, to replace barbecue shelters, and $400,000 will be spent at Mooloolaba Spit as part of the staged master plan works.

Action will soon start at Maroochydore City Centre

Residents will start to see the start of demolition work at the future Maroochydore City Centre later this month.

Buildings on the perimeter of the north-east corner of Horton Park Golf, at Aerodrome Rd, will make way for site preparation and major services.

You’ll get a great view of the size of the site once the demolition has been completed.

Council has budgeted $16.24 million this year to start implementing the Maroochydore City Centre master plan.
