Mayor Jamieson - A great year for the Coast
  • Friday 10 November 2017

This has been a great year for our Sunshine Coast.

Not only have we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast, we have witnessed the opening of two of our major projects - the State Government's Sunshine Coast University Hospital in the Kawana health precinct and council's Sunshine Coast Solar Farm at Valdora.

There has also been significant progress in the creation of our new CBD at Maroochydore and the expansion of our Sunshine Coast Airport.

Our unemployment rate of 4.9% continues to be below the State average, building approvals are at an eight-year high, we have posted new records in domestic and international tourism visitation, and there is more than $10 billion in public and private projects being delivered or in the pipeline.

Crucially – and this is great news for our business community who rely on consumer spending – the Sunshine Coast’s average household income is rising, which is a major goal of my mayoralty.

Household incomes are now 10% below the State average compared to 22.3% below the average in 2013.

I'm sure we can build on the achievements from this year in 2018.
