Mayor Jamieson - Aura negotiations produce high quality outcome

After many years of planning, reviews and consultation, the momentous first sod has been turned at the Caloundra South development now known as Aura, City of Colour.

It is certainly a pleasure to acknowledge we have concluded the negotiations on the Infrastructure Agreements that will enable this development to proceed, providing 20,000 new dwellings for around 50,000 residents.

Council has achieved a high quality outcome for the residents of the Sunshine Coast – for those already here and the 180,000 who will move here in the future.

We have maintained faith with the values and aspirations that are regarded so highly by Sunshine Coast residents.

Keeping faith with these attributes has been vitally important – because in the end, it delivers well planned and well managed growth which is a vital consideration in retaining the identity of the Sunshine Coast.

Caloundra South will represent a new model for residential and community development.

It is being designed to deliver a series of interconnected villages, with extensive rehabilitated areas and open space, which will mean this new community will be a positive addition to our region.

One of the priorities for Council was ensuring that existing ratepayers were not disadvantaged by the emergence of this growth.

I am pleased to say that we have reached an agreement where the balance of infrastructure responsibilities is right.

This will see infrastructure delivery led by Stockland and well sequenced to keep pace with development

The delivery of this project comes with great responsibilities for all stakeholders.

Council is confident that a high quality and well serviced community will be delivered that adds to the offer of this region, while showcasing our lifestyle and maintaining our great environmental assets and credentials.

Council looks forward to working with Stockland, the Queensland Government and others as we now shift this development from planning to reality.
