Spring school holidays are almost here and I know there are many Sunshine Coast residents who are looking forward to spending some extra time with their families.
It's also a busy time for those working in our tourism industry which remains one of the most important sectors in our regional economy and features in our Regional Economic Development Strategy as offering great potential for growth.
On top of four very successful cruise ship visits which brought around 10,000 visitors to our Coast, the most in any month since we started our cruise ship partnerships, we have received a very encouraging update on the number of international tourists coming to our region.
The Tourism Research Australia figures showed we attracted our highest ever increase in international visitors with 296,000 arrivals to the year ending June 2017, up 11.6%.
These visitors contribute $249 million in expenditure to our economy.
The increase was more than double the statewide growth and highlights the great work all of our Sunshine Coast operators and tourism bodies are doing in marketing our region.
